TD;LR male->shemale counts as "gender change" according to the forum mods, for reasons that are poorly explained.

God damnit the still haven't updated the fucking definition yet? It's been 6 months they said they would. Long story short they change how gender change counts around the bowsette craze happened, and gender change is when the character tag start applying to opposite sex tags even if they haven't truly changed sexes, it's only being enforced recently. Since the shemale tag is a female class tag, male->shemale is gender change. This is allegedly to make the tags logically consistent. Never mind the fact that the feminization tag filled in that role perfectly.

I would mind this shit so much if the forum mods sent the memo to the wiki definition guys since hardly anyone goes the fucking forums in the first place, but nooooo.

You're correct on that's how gender change works. However what change was expected 6 months ago?
The wiki definition is handled by 'forum mods' and is changed through a process that takes place on the forum.

Hit up the 'General tag discussion' thread on the forum if you want any progress to be made on the definition not being updated.

I did look back the comment gallery that started this it was around august and september, so less than 5-4 months to be accurate, I swore it was longer than that. Anyway someone asked for clarification on wiether male->shemale was gender change in response to someone getting owned in a gallery argument. This gallery: https://e-hentai.org/g/2713638/8dac6f83b5/ I had a bit of kneejerk response and left my case on the matter; It's dumb, but if the mods want to be that way they need to be explicit in the definition. Because the way Rules As Written (RAW from on) "gender change"= "sex change", because "gender" is just a synonym for sex for majority of people, this does not contradict the current definition even though it violates it's spirit. Their reasoning for male->shemale is not stated anywhere on the wiki and is only inferred by applying inductive reasoning of multiple definitions on the wiki. One the flaws of inductive reasoning is that you can end up with multiple interpretations using logic, it's about probability not definitive answers.

From what my impression it looked like they were aware of the issue and going to change said definition to make Admins' interpretation known, so I thought my job was done and stopped looking at the thread. Looks like I need to dig through that thread to see why that has not happened yet.

Fun fact tanya from youjo senki is supposed to not be gender change, not fully sure why, i recall statements because tanya is reincarnation and thus a different character from the guy who reincarnation into her, to oververtly reductive that the story is effectively about a girl not a guy who turns into a girl since the change is hardly brought up in the story. This is also not mentioned anywhere in the definition. So guess what? it's still tagged as gender change because it still makes sense to do so under the original/current definition.

Gender change is not based on the change of the sex, but based upon the gender as determined by e-h. We use our own standard / rules for it.
To make it grossly simple, the namespace the tags are tagged on determines the gender. And if a character changes from one namespace to the other it's considered a gender change.

So a male who starts off being in the male namespace, but then later becomes a shemale / futa and is now in the female namespace qualifies for gender change. This is why a female -> shemale / futa doesn't qualify for gender change, despite now having the 'sex' of a male.

Your fun fact about Tanya is correct. When it comes to these cases it is a bit arbitrary. And is ruled case by case. It's usually noted on the character tag definition when this happens.

But tl;dr being a reborn character was a big factor, with the character being female from then on. Along with all? doujins featuring the character as a girl, unlike say rimuru from slime.
