The wide shot of the village and the passage of time represented by the childhood friend's thoughts gives an isolating feeling that wraps the scene neatly.

I think it would be interesting if there was a follow-up manga where they told it from the perspective of the childhood friend. Where he gets depressed and starts trying to find a bunch of women to sleep with, until he corrupts himself into being a cynic. This manga is relatively realistic, in terms of a girl moving to a new place, finds a really nice guy who sees something special in her and becomes her anchor.
