Those are 1 yen bills from before 1916. If you look at them in the Wikipedia you will see them in the 1915-1917 section, but if you check its sources they say that only the edition with the numbers was released to circulation in 1916 and the ones that appear in the doujinshi are indeed the ones released in 1889 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banknotes_of_the_Japanese_yen#1915%E2%80%931917).

I didn't find any graph with the comparison of gold/silver or dollars (remember that the dollar was also linked to gold until Nixon decided otherwise) with the yen in the final years of the 19th century, but I found one that started in 1916 (https://newworldeconomics.com/japan-the-yen-1914-1941/) so if we pretend this applies to the bills we know (it is the year at the border) that would mean you have approximately 50 cents per yen, or 2 yen per dollar.

If we take an inflation calculator (like https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/) we will see that the yen would be equivalent to almost $16 today, so that means that 3 yen is $48, 5 yen is $80, that Reimu appears with the equivalent of $112 in the cover (7 yen) and that Reimu appears with $208? $224? in page 16 (13 or 14 yen, I can't say for sure). So if I was you Reimu, I would gather all the fallen bills after recovering (quickly) from the orgasm...

Of course, this can be highly inaccurate because as I said I didn't find comparison data from the 1890s, without mentioning that calculating inflation is not enough without adjusting the acquisitive power too, apart from others factors. And from the fact that Gensokyo is not pre-1914 Japan.

As a fun fact, I was looking at the bills in page 15 (7 in total, counting both panels) and I realized that Reimu appears as she was taking the 3 yen already from the guy's pocket, without making any sense because they are both naked.

We don't know how much a yen is valued inside Gensokyo because most probably it doesn't have a fixed value.

Rinnosuke tells Sumireko in Curiosities of Lotus Asia Chapter 36 that Gensokyo uses a bartering system, where items are exchanged. Thus, bills are also part of that system, although they are special in the sense that they are like a "blank item" which you can use to tell the other person "have this instead" (you know, its first historical meaning -and also as IOUs- and not the meaning it has for us), and whose value is decided between the two parties exchanging. So being a 1 yen or 1000 yen bill doesn't matter at all, and if the receiving end says it wants more the paper that says 1 yen more than the one which says 1000 yen, then in that context the 1 yen is valued more than the 1000 yen bill.

So yes, I think instead of just going to a yen to USD site, insert the values that are mentioned in this doujinshi and then say "Damn can I really fuck Reimu for the equivalent of a X?" or write an almost 2000 character message about why it's a different yen and thus its historical value inside Japan (and not Gensokyo) is different from the actual value (lol what was that guy thinking), I think saying "judging Gensokyo's currency from our point of view, where every piece of paper that represents a currency has a fixed value is wrong" would be better and more correct. Although in my defense, I kinda already did it with "And from the fact that Gensokyo is not pre-1914 Japan.", but I know saying it in a little phrase after all I said is a little weird and makes it seem like it doesn't matter that much.
