But anyone could go and run this through cotrans if they really wanted to read it and were happy with that. Why upload it here? I don't think EH/EX becomes a more useful site when 90% of the "translations" are machine generated slop that anyone could have done for themselves.

You wanna do something useful, make an extension that lets people push a button and run a gallery through cotrans. Then anyone who wants can read anything they want, and people who still want to find higher quality translations can do so without wading through oceans of drek.

But that wouldn't get you internet brownie points and recognition, which is what you're really after.

For the "it wasn't going to be translated anyway": As usual, I would like to point out that E-H has a bounty system that ANYONE can use in order to find a proper translator and/or an editor. Hence ANYONE can obtain the translation of a work, regardless of how old the work is. However, obviously, it'll take more time than MTL. That's for sure.

As for the if "someone wants to know what a doujin is about" and doesn't mind MTL, he's free to use it himself. However there's no need to upload it on EH or any other websites, right?
(Even I do use an automatic MTL tool when I'm interested in a work. However, this MTL will always remain just a bad preview that I'll keep for myself. I've some respect, you see. Towards the work itself. And towards myself. Hence I'll never upload any trash translation and will always do my best while editing/typesetting a work)
