Defending your lover’s reputation by raping the accuser has “incel” vibes to it. Barghest really went, “M’Lady let me defend your honor by raping someone.” And then Barghest calls herself a noble knight, like WTF!?!?! This makes it worst when the accuser is also speaking the truth about Mash’s infidelity and Barghest knows about it.

Tamamo and Kiyohime’s sudden “rape conversion”also throws off the story’s narrative tone. The story started with an heavy tone of paranoia, inadequacy, unfaithfulness, passion, and then infidelity. However that heavy tone is broken with “LOL I like dick now after being raped because hentai logic.” The rape in question was also very violent, there was no indication that Tamamo and Kiyohime enjoyed it.

Ruins the original on a number of levels. Basically takes it from a genuinely compelling story of infidelity to absolutely bog-standard NTR, which is made significantly worse by the fact that it used to be so good.

In the original, Mash is insecure and kind-of-understandably upset about her love rivals and the inattentive Ritsuka, which leads her to fall into the arms of Barghest, getting drunk on her new "knightly" lover's affection and attention without wanting to confront the fact that she'd ultimately betrayed Ritsuka's trust in a much more fundamental way than he ever did her. In this one, she's just... a-okay with Barghest violently beating and raping a bunch of other girls while they scream for her to stop? She's pissed that Ritsuka's smiling at other girls, but fine with Barghest raping them unconscious? She's still more concerned about Ritsuka finding out that she's moved on? Who is this character even meant to be? Any sense of sympathy or tragedy is gone, she's just a really unlikeable prop.

In the original, their relationship is clearly unhealthy, but also based on mutual admiration and a deep need for validation. It's very efficiently set up and executed! In this one, Barghest just violently rapes Kiyohime and Tamamo - in a scene that's clearly meant to be unpleasant and brutal - and they instantly fall in love with her dick and abandon Ritsuka. What's the angle meant to be, here? Is this a story about feelings of inadequacy and indulgence leading hearts astray, or a story about how all women get hearts for pupils after being bludgeoned with a sufficiently large cock?

What a waste.

@Torcoolguy It's not really the rape they're complaining about but how it kinda just muddies the story which was at least believable when it wasn't really needed. Like the artist could've come up with countless other reasons to have Barghest fuck the other characters that wouldn't have basically made all the previous setup for why Mash was falling in love with Barghest meaningless. Keep in mind that Mash being worried about being betrayed is the main reason the story even happens. Yet she doesn't really give a shit that Barghest's first choice of how to react against two of her allies was to rape them and the only thing they did was be justifiably upset that she was cheating on Ritsuka. Like I could buy her excusing her doing it to Shuten because she was clearly goading Barghest into it and caused her to be enraged enough that she was clearly acting without reason, so it feels really silly that she wouldn't' really feel betrayed or hurt by her doing that to Kiyohime and Tamamo.

Anyways what exactly does this artist have against Shuten she's like an extreme asshole for no reason lol, like I really don't see what else they could do to wrap this story up aside from having her killed off.

There's no expectation of characters being in character, but this story is a weird one. The story wants to be serious so the characters used have some character and yet weirdly their character broke to allow hentai happen. Shuten being michevious oni that she is to put lightly, that's fine. But Tamamo and Kiyohime being just whatever and randomly having sex with Barghest? Maybe I'm wrong to say the story is serious, rather the setting is just accessory to the hentai plot, only meant to drive the NTR elements, Gudao being the oblivious harem cuck losing his harem to the superior NTR dude (here Barghest), and characters feeling emotions regards to cheating and enjoying their partner in moral debauchery and pleasure of the flesh (this is mostly Mash).
