@SSSdriver While many important, foundational members of the fandom were gay, it skewed more straight back in the day, which you could also get kind of a glimpse of via retro uploads on this very website.

Not to get too dark in a porn upload's comment section, but 8 out of 10 gay men were unfortunately lost during the 80s. As a result, young adults remaining in the fandom skewed much further straight than it would in the "modern" furry fandom that we all know from 2005-ish onwards (mostly comprised of people who were either not born yet during these events or were too young to be directly impacted.)

Even in the early 2000s when I started getting into the "fandom", it was definitely flavored a LOT more straight than it is now. The audience, the prominent artists, and the overall vibe all went more that way. Gay stuff was always there, to be sure, and much more accepted in the fandom than the culture at large, so it was"gay" relatively speaking. But gay was still very much A flavor, not THE flavor like it is today. These days if you're exclusively straight in the fandom, you're almost a unicorn. Plus the whole mentality has just shifted a lot. If "zines" still existed in the modern era and someone tried to make a straight-only one, they'd probably be attacked as homophobic or something.

You know before you come for someone, try to give them the benefit of the doubt. I was in the fandom back then so I know about the media. It was predominantly straight back then because most artists only drew females. Male only books like this were not common while straight furry comics were released in mainstream publishers back then.
