It's not subtitling, it translation. Subtitling is for media with an audio component that describes the audio element (in anime, translating the dialog). The "subtitles" are an added part of the work. In 2d works that are static, like manga or a novel, the translation process is called translation because that is all there is, the substance of the work is transformed.
Also, proofread the mtl translation and edit it to fix any problems. I do a lot of mtl for Pixiv manga myself for personal pleasure but I make sure to fix grammar and word choice because it's distracting if you don't.

@RabidTanker of course they can't fix the typesetting. I've tried my hand at translating a work from that site. I used OCR tools to extract the text, a handwritten kanji recognizer to fix the mistakes of the OCR tool, multiple translators websites that I fed varying amount of context. I crosschecked the results together and against the pictures, I fixed the grammar, the tenses, the genders, the proper nouns and the language level. I got a really good script out of it, on part with the one released by a real group (after all, tools are tools, they can produce good results if they aren't used by lazy idiots).

Then I started typesetting it, and I realized the easy part was the translation, despite no knowledge of Japanese beside reading hiragana and katakana phonetically and my weeb knowledge. Seriously, it took me 2 evenings to do what I described above, but then it took me one evening to clean and typeset one page, despite being moderately good with gimp (I typesetted around half of it before a real group released their translation).

Considering that, there's no way those braindead lazy morons who aren't arsed to do basic proofreading and have no respect for the works would even attempt to begin to typeset anything.
