Downloaded pictures from the now defunct Animepantser wiki that was hosted on FC2. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the image downloader, the pictures are not sorted by series, unlike the original blog. The pictures are in a random order. Still, it is probably worth archiving the site's content in some capacity, especially the screenshots that may be hard to find anywhere else.

Original link: https://animepantser.wiki.fc2.com

Unfortunately, the screenshots are not labeled by series and I don't know the source for all of them, so any help in labeling screenshots per series is appreciated. Feel free to post sources in the comments.

Yeah, sure, uploader. Let's do that.
Ever heard of saucenao?

Yes I have, though what I meant is a list of anime per gallery, rather than having to individually search each picture (which is impractical anyway given that SauceNAO has a daily limit).

I'd like to help labeling the images, maybe creating a Torrent with the images in folders sorted by series(? However, with over 40.000 items, it's far from being an easy task. If you have any good ideas on what to do, and you need help, count me in.

I imagine one way to do it would be to go through Animepantser on the Internet Archive, manually check every article listing, perhaps downloading each entry manually, and using a script to compare each image to what was already downloaded. When that's done, the images can be sorted per series, though probably not by episode. It would probably require programming knowledge that is way beyond my knowledge. While not easy, I imagine it's doable with some programming.

Unfortunately, a handful of pictures were corrupted, so it appears that they are lost forever (hence why some of the galleries are less than 2000 files), but mercifully they were less than 10 so it shouldn't be a major issue.

Luckily, I'm a programmer, so maybe It can be done that way, even with many images down, it could help to classify some of the data, so that's one way.
I also tried creating a script to classify each image using SauceNao's API, but that 100 searches per day limit is an actual impediment. Maybe if I upgrade my account the limit is removed, but I don't know if it'll work, and I don't want to put money just to check.

Try using a combination of SauceNAO and Trace.moe. I imagine Trace.moe won't get all, but it could work for at least some of them. You could also try contacting SauceNAO for info regarding the API and the project, so at least if you're gonna pay for the API you have an idea of what to expect and how much to pay.

Turns out the limit per day after upgrading is 5k requests, so that should be enough, however, at the end there still should be a couple of hundred images without source, guess those can be done manually using Google images or something. I'll let you know how it turns out in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, maybe someone else finds another way.

Cool. If the images are properly sourced and grouped, then maybe a torrent could be made where all the pictures are grouped according to series?

Maybe. The classification part is almost done. So far the results are 1700~ folders, each representing a specific series season, OVA, some movies, etc. And around 5000 images SauceNao couldn't find the correct source (and if SauceNao can't find it, no other page will, so those need to be done manually using Google Images or checking the Twitter links SauceNao gives).

Also on the bad news side, I found that some series were lacking some images (I just know it; no way the creator would forgot about those), so I counted how many images were on the final result, yielding 45951 (I messed up at the beginning, so there are like 29 more images that repeat; that's on me). Also, just to be sure I didn't mess up something else, I counted repeated images after the classification: there are around 200; however, I also ran the script on the original set, and it yields 188~ repeated images, so yeah, sadly it seems that there are images that got lost when pulling the data from the original page.

Watching the end result however, it seems that it did a pretty good job, but it's still a little messy because of how SauceNao yields the results, so I'll see if I can fix that.

That's cool. It's regrettable that some images are lost forever, but with how archiving works, it's a miracle that we still got over 99% saved, so what matters is that most were rescued. Hoping to see more progress on the classification end.

If there are some that the correct source cannot do, it might be worth doing a manual check of each page on Animepantser's IA link, just to be sure.

(February 12, 2025 additional comment:)
To Gordof, I'm not sure if you're still keeping track of this page or what the progress with your sorting is, but just in case you weren't aware: https://anime2.blog.jp (another ecchi scene blog) recently announced that it is ending updates and will shut down by the end of the year. Would it be possible for you to also archive it? Given that the site is still live for now, it might be easier to download and sort now compared to Animepantser.

Hello, I'm still alive. Sorry for taking so long. I'm done with ordering, and I must say the script did quite a good job. (Although I spent many hours merging the files from two different folders with almost the same name, differing by just one letter and so on.) The end result is 40,231 screenshots in 1,240 different folders. There's also some sorting by season; however, with some fanservice-heavy series with multiple seasons and hundreds of screenshots like To Love-Ru, it was such a mess at the beginning that I had no choice but to put all its images into one folder. But in general, the screenshots are also sorted by different seasons of the same anime. Sadly, there's nothing I can do to sort them by chapters.

I’d really like to call it done and upload it, but there are still 5,691 screenshots uncategorized. Luckily, a good number of them are easily recognizable (and yeah, for some reason, SauceNao couldn't find the source). I’d really like to try and sort those remaining images, at least a good portion of them, and lastly, try to compare the end result with the original just in case, but that should be really quick. All in all, a couple more weeks and it should be ready.

Regarding the manual check on Animepantser's archive, I actually tried, but every time I check the archive, it only shows me a couple of screenshots, if I'm lucky. The rest is dead.

Lastly, about https://anime2.blog.jp, I'm actually sad about it. I used to check the site pretty often, so it might be worth creating an archive of that site too. I could try creating a web scraper to archive everything, but that’ll have to wait until I'm done with this one.

Where are you planning to upload them, by any chance? It might actually be a good idea to upload them to multiple places for redundancy reasons, especially considering this is intended to be a backup and it would not be a good idea for all this to be lost again.

Were you also able to find out what series the missing ones belonged to? If you did, then maybe their pages on the IA could be manually checked.

My original idea was to just post the torrent on nyaa.si and let the internet spread it, but I like the idea of redundancy. However, I’m not sure where else I could post it. With over 1200 folders and around 700 different animes, it’s quite complicated. I was thinking about putting everything on a webpage and uploading it to GitHub Pages, but given the nature of the content, it may violate the guidelines. So, I’m out of ideas for what else I could do.

As for the missing ones, I’m working on it. Out of 5,691, I’ve checked 1,034 so far. It’s quite the struggle. Half of them will remain uncategorized because not even Google Images or Yandex can find them. After that, checking the pages manually on IA manually? Like going page by page comparing with every anime? It may help to see where something is lacking, but going one by one would actually take some serious effort.

Yeah, checking pages manually on IA. Obviously you can rule out those that are already categorized, so there'd be a focus on those that are not categorized. I imagine it will be difficult, but is there no automated way to do it? Thumbnails are broken, but for the most part clicking on pics shows that, with few exceptions, most of the pics were saved.

Note: I'm such an idiot. Indeed, clicking on the thumbnails shows the image.

However, I don't think it can be automated; dealing with images is such a mess. But I might be able to come up with something. I'll try after getting this part done. If not, the most I can do is check the ones with the most doubts I have.

Edit: So, It's done. it's just a little of cleaning and I'll post the torrent. I cannot seed 24/7, but I hope it'll get some seeders. If you have any suggestion on where else I can upload it, you can tell me and I'll give a check, also I'm planning on posting here the uncategorized ones, there are 2555 that neither SauceNao or Google Images can't find so maybe someone else can give a hand with it.

Here is it: https://www.mediafire.com/file/86d71xx5ek55jmj/Animepantser_-_sorted.rar

A Couple of Notes:
- I wanted to create a torrent and post it to Nyaa, but right now, I can't seed (my internet upload speed is painfully slow, and I can only seed a few hours a day).

- As far as I checked, all the images from the archive are here, if not, 99.9% of them are. However, I can't compare every single one, so some images may be missing (or placed inside another folder).

- All the images are in .jpg, with some .gif, unlike the original set, which included .png, .webp, etc.

- There may be duplicate images, around 14 or 15 due to a mistake on my part. I could never find them again.

- In most cases, the images are sorted by anime season/OVA/movie (e.g., To Heart 2 (2007), To Heart 2 AD, To Heart 2 AD Next, etc.). However, there may be cases where a screenshot does belong to the anime series but not to that specific season, OVA, etc. I made an effort to correct this, but some series have so many screenshots and seasons (e.g., Ikkitousen).

- I also made an effort to replace some low-resolution images with better-quality versions.

- I added a few images that weren’t in the original set. However, to preserve the integrity of the original collection, I decided to stop. The ones I added are still included, but there are only a few.

- Every image I couldn't categorize is inside the Uncategorized folder. Being in that folder doesn't always mean SauceNao can't find it, but rather that it can't find a source with a similarity above 75%. In about 95% of cases, it won't find the real source anyway, so using SauceNao, Google Images, or Yandex for these images might not work. (Most of them belong to old animes, and in many cases, I honestly didn’t bother searching for them.)

- Regarding image names, they always follow the same format: 0, 1, ... etc. However, some numbers may be missing in some folders. This doesn’t mean an image is missing, just that I moved it to another folder manually.

This was a really hard task. I probably made things more difficult than they needed to be, so maybe it's just a skill issue. It's not perfect, but I did the best I could.

If you think it’s good enough, feel completely free to share it wherever you like. There’s still work left to do, further classification comparing against IA, etc. but this is as far as I'll go.

Thank you so much! If you don't mind, could you post the link in all the Animepantser galleries so that anyone who sees could see?

By the way: are you also still planning to archive Anime2 as well?

Yeah, I'll give a try to archive Anime2, but I'll do it later.
