One of the most interesting Space Battleship Yamato doujins / fanclub books I own, acquired from a very good sale on Yahoo! Auctions around November. Many of these were in their original bags and had never been opened from the particular sale, but upon reading this one, I was impressed with its organization and the themes present. Mother Town, in this sense, refers to the port city in Iscandar's ocean, though is a somewhat ambiguous reference to the group itself. The artists and organizers, while mysterious, appear to have been college age Yamato fans. This particular issue was published July 30th of 1980, two years after Farewell, Space Battleship Yamato was released in theaters. Earlier Mother Town doujins seem to hail from 1978, though I was not able to acquire them during the sale.
This particular doujin features tons of, if not all, adult themed works. While not hentai or yaoi in a conventional sense, all of the stories and art relate to pairings/shipping and sex in general, with erotic stories and adult works that are very challenging in nature, especially when they were published. Alternating themes of BL and more are prevalent, and based on the bylines, this particular group seems to have gotten coverage in Animage from time to time in their 'Best Fanclub' lists and reviews. Concurrently, this particular issue advertises the release of an anime research journal known as COSMIC, which would focus on Fujiko Mine, Lana from Future Boy Conan and Sayla Mass. This text, which is quite rare and notorious, seems to have been advertised here first.
This particular issue was done at the height of the Aniparody movement and shows the work of some very dedicated Otaku. The art at times has some very direct influence from Gundam, primarily Yasuhiko's lines, in a few of the short stories.
