This has been a long time coming! I decided to do this doujinshi because I liked the way the story was told and Joushi's art in general. Unlike my previous works, I decided to redraw the black and white pages to take out the sound effects. This ended up causing a much longer process, but I really enjoy how it turned out. I am sure I got some stuff wrong because of the scope of the work, but hopefully the work will mostly speak for itself. Leave any questions or anything you like here. If it is changing someone memories and perceptions, then does that mean the MC is just hallucinating himself as a busty cute girl and also why was his memories re-written as a girl and not an idealized version of himself as a man? Was his friend gay for him and used the machine to make him think he was a woman?

@ACC I was unsure myself while translating with the ending at least. The friend character set the parameters for the memory rewrite in some ways; he was the one that chose to make the main character a girl/woman. The main character thought they were just going to redo their life over as a guy. Initially, I thought it was meant to be a VR-like system. But the ending really throws that into question, and the friend character is a little confused (I tried my best to make it show through with the text given, but it was not the easiest). Over time, the main character's time as a guy are overwritten and forgotten. You can see this in a few thoughts in the middle of the story. Finally, my personal interpretation is that he liked the main character as a friend and decided to take the advantage of the situation. The only thing I don't get is why it would matter if the friend character thought it was supposed to be a more VR-like thing. It makes me wonder if the writer had a certain idea initially but changed partway through, but they never changed certain aspects of the story. So the whole thing becomes a little muddled.

If I had to guess it'd be something along the lines of the reality change machine looked for the nearest timeline where he was actually happy at this age. Then, his friend saw in that timeline he had become a cute girl, and pushed the timeline a little further to one where he was both that and in love with him.

The rest of the manga is him "reliving" his life as the new memories take hold, and they have all been shifted to the new universe. The only reason his friend remembers him being male is because of his closeness to the machine as it makes the change, and will probably fade with time.

Of course this is all speculation and not represented much in the manga. The truth is the author can't write cogent stories, you can see as much in their last manga's comments where everyone is confused by the body swaps and perspective shifts.

Interesting ending. Seems like the friend wasn't really sure how the much would change except that it would be a result where he is liked. A nice change from a scummy friend going for identity destruction on purpose.

Art 10/10, story I would give a 6/10, a little muddled and unsatisfying at the end. Sound like the friend is not aware of what happened in his/her rewritten memories so that could be a sequel in itself of him finding out and trying to reconcile with what he has done to his friends' psyche.

So I can only imagine that the friend didn't fully understand how the machine worked but decided to give it a try and in a bout of mischief set the machine to make the MC a girl. He likely only thought the machine would work as a sort of mind control or therapy as his friend really seemed like he would either die working or kill himself.

As for the mechanics, there has been a sort of fringe theory floating around in various forms about how our perception influences and shapes the reality around us. Serial Experiments Lain plays with this concept heavily using the internet and computers as a medium, and the esper power system of A Certain Magical Index does the same. Hell even in Berserk the gods are created because people basically thought them into existence.

The long and the short of it is that through observation and perception we interact with the universe and as a result of said interaction, phenomenon come into existence. The machine may do something similar, where it scans a persons memories, tweaks them using a set of parameters, and then has said person observe them to force a change to the world outside of the machine. This is why the friend who likely only set the machine to make the MC a girl was surprised when the MC came out of the machine as not only a girl, but basically a horny slut dedicated solely to him and with fleeting awareness of their situation before entering the machine.

The speech bubble on page 44 of the gallery (labelled 42 of the story) is written as これで色々現実も改変されたはずだが. I am only barely N5 in Japanese but I think this might be translated better as something along the lines of "This thing must have altered reality in all sorts of ways...." Slightly different and carries more of a confused connotation than the version in this sentence that makes it feel like he was aware of the full effects of the machine, which would make his confusion at the MC change all the more weird.

My reasoning is like this:

これで - means with this, in reference to the machine

色々 - means various, lots, or all sorts of

現実 - reality

も - I believe is being used as emphasis

改変された - to be done as a passive paste tense so did

はず - must (be)

だ - is

が - at a sentence end it can soften a statement like the speaker is unsure, so the ellipsis at the end of the sentence

So we get "with this (the machine) all sorts of reality changed.."
