Pg 4: I think it should it be: "Grandma has bad hearing"
Pg 10: Is this repeating text?: "This is my uncle's.... uncle's... right...?"
Pg 29: There's repeating sentences on the top text boxes.

I think you should also remove the defloration tag since the niece basically lost her virginity in the first chapter.

Great work on your first scanlation man, it’s clear a lot of effort was put into it. That said I have some advice that I wish I knew when I first started scanlating:

-For moaning bubbles, try using a distinct font for those as it makes the scanlation look a lot better and more professional. Dafont.com is your best friend for finding specific fonts to use if you aren't using it already. I like using Mango (linked below as it’s not on dafont) but others you can use are:
A little pot, A Safe Place to Fall, Aaron’s Hand, Bring the noize, CARO, Rambo Killer, Royfont, Elisana, mince (all found on Dafont.com)

-On the topic of fonts, try using a main font different from wild words. While wild words is perfectly serviceable most scanlators agree it's very overused and that using a slightly different font helps your scanlation stick out a bit and makes for a better reading experience. I like to use Ames (again found on Dafont.com) but you can do some research to see what other experienced scanlators like to use.

-When it comes to the actual translating, it’s ok to localize/edit the dialogue a bit to make it flow better contrary to what people say. I noticed some of dialogue was a bit awkard in your translation. For example, on page 28 Oji-san says: “You’ll soon realize what kind of person Suu-chan really is.” While this may be what he said word for word in Japanese, it doesn’t really make sense in english. Changing the dialogue to be ‘You’ll soon realize what kind of person you really are.” would be totally fine. As long as you try and keep the original meaning/intent as close as possible while not making it sound weird and awkward in English.

In general, once you’ve finished translating the Japanese to English you should read it alongside the Japanese version and make tweaks to the English script as you go along. This really helps improve the quality of the translation in the long run.

Of course, this could also be a lack of Japanese understanding as well, which I don’t blame you as I’m far from fluent myself. With practice you’ll get better at understanding/interpreting the og japanese dialogue to better fit your English translation. If google translate isn’t helping use DeepL translator as it’s generally considered much better at Japanese. Though google translate is still very helpful and can be more accurate in a lot of cases so use both in conjunction.

-Now for those difficult borderless texts and redrawing of backgrounds. Consider learning how to set up an AI inpainting model as it makes redrawing backgrounds/editing out text WAY easier in the long run. I’ve been using a model that doesn’t require any previous setup called Toona.io which is paywalled, however I got around it by using a fake email generator and continually signing up to get more points, lol. It’s a bit of a learning curve and the inpainting is far from perfect, but it’s SO MUCH easier than having to redraw everything l by hand. Generally it replaces the text and fills in the background to which you can tweak it and put the new english text over so that there’s not a noticeable difference. I can’t stress how much time this saves.

There’s better ways to do this for sure, but I’ve been putting off learning stable diffusion just for this lol. It definitely works for now.

-Last piece of advice, for some reason scanlating likes to draw the most obnoxious kinds of people who like to cause a bunch of pointless drama, so be wary of any scanlating community/discord if you’re a part of one. I just avoid the bigger community in general, we’re translating fucking porn here. It’s not that deep.

I know that was a bunch of info to dump on you but this is what I’d tell my past self if I had the chance. Hope it’ll help you and good luck!

I’ll definitely look into using different fonts to improve the overall feel, and I appreciate the tips on localization, I’ll try to make the dialogue sound more natural while keeping the original meaning.

The AI inpainting tool sounds really interesting too! I hadn’t thought about using something like that, but I’ll give it a try and see how it works for me. And I get what you mean about the community side of things - I’m just doing this for fun, so I’ll keep that in mind.
