But when these are just unauth'd reuploads in the first place (I actually did pay for the original version on Hotaru's page on DLSite, slightly higher res than what is uploaded here), I'm not going to spend $100-$200 per doujin to translate them, when a few bucks for this gets the job done, although the result is not quite ideal.

Hate MTL as much as the next guy, but Hotaru has 3 untranslated works I like to see, if nobody is going to pay for a proper translation shit like this is bound to happen. My big issue with MTL is that, the people who do them don't even bother to quality check the fucking thing, they just push it through the machine and post the result. Probably thinking "Who gives a shit if the dialogue is inchoerent, these fucking plebians should be happy I wasted my time getting the software to translate this shit" if they even spent an ounce of effort to just go over the text and quality check the damn thing, there would still be issues with MTL but at least they are readble. I've taken shits that took more effort then this slop

MTL isn't the issue; the people using it are.

With a bit of effort, some proofreading, editing, typesetting, a good font choice, proper cleaning and at least 2 rounds of QC you could make something worthwhile even with MTL.
But of course the vast, vast majority of MTL works have their translation slapped on with as little effort as possible.
Just look at page 19 how a square white box was placed over the original, and even then the text wasn't placed properly inside of it.
Likely the person who made this didn't even spend an entire hour on this. Translate, edit, upload all done as fast as possible with no love, no care, no effort.

Have a little humility. Yes the translation is total garbage, I agree. "Oh... I'm in the ministry" is actually hilariously bad now that I read it.

My thought process was this, I contacted one person for commissioning a translation request, for this and the other Hotaru doujin I uploaded with a similarly low-quality machine TL. They asked for roughly $400 total to translate and typeset everything. That's fine to set your own rate according to experience and what you feel is fair for your efforts, but I didn't want to pay that much, respectfully. I don't know Japanese script, I have no typesetting experience, so I looked up other solutions and found this translator tool, which was really a glorified wrapper around Deepseek/chatgpt, but after seeing some examples and results, I thought it would be passable. So I ran both doujins through then uploaded here right after, thinking, "oh people have been waiting on an English translation for these for several months, let me upload ASAP."

I skimmed through yesterday admittedly and noticed glaring issues, but of course galleries can't be wiped, only disowned. I didn't think it would be met with such vitriol though. Subpar uploads that get low ratings hit the front page constantly on this site every time i visit, why is this any different? It is just so funny to me, because there's this massive sense of entitlement from what is a collective set of degenerates, and yes I am part of that set obviously, but the key difference is that I've never shown such entitlement and disdain on top of my piracy, as I've seen here in these comments.

I reached out to several more translators, and will have a proper human-translated upload by the end of next month, for this and the other doujin I uploaded. But part of me still thinks I will have to see you complaining again next month, still needlessly upset and petty over this upload, not letting it go, even though you will get a proper translation for free. And if I don't upload, someone else eventually will, so obviously I will when I can.

If y'all cared so much about a proper translation as you claim to do here, one of y'all would have commisioned someone to translate by now, after months of the doujins being uploaded, and in lower res than what i shared too. But no. Radio silence.

@uploader I understand your point of view. The "we are all gooners who take advantage of pirated material that we don't pay for" is true, haha. I just wanted to clarify that my previous comment was not with bad intentions; I'm surprised that the person who used to do the English translations, and who used to do it a little after the original material came out, hasn't done it again. It seems that, seeing that Hotaru didn't publish the complete stories in such a long time, he decided to focus on other things and simply missed it.

I also have several translations made with MTL (in this case using cotrans.touhou.ai) that I keep for my personal use, because I really can't bring myself to upload them here. One of my favorite translations is [Sadalsuud (Hoshiaka)] Seijun datta Hazu no Mashu wa Futanari no Yuuwaku ni Ochiru Dai-1,2&3-wa (Fate/Grand Order). Part 3 took me quite a while, as I used a meme generator for the typeset, as well as comparing with ChatGPT, Google Translate, Deepl and looking up the meaning word by word, even onomatopoeias, to better grasp the context and do the translation manually. It took me almost a month and I realized that translating takes effort. Maybe in the future I will consider investing in a professional translator to take care of the three missing parts, since the fourth part is already translated.

Yeah, I saw that T's Translations hadn't touched these more recent Hotaru works, so I took it upon myself, but now I will put more (financial) effort into it, and will have that commissioned translation up next month as mentioned.

@dafdagh You're right, the Japanese raw posted last week is the same exact resolution as what I posted, I retract my comment on that. When I was uploading this, I looked for the previous raw upload of it, and I was hastily searching, so somehow I only noticed the one uploaded last year in May. That one was about half the resolution, which is why I made that point.
