For the original version (the less comic style one) I used SD1.5 with ControlNet. There are some advanced methods for consistency where you first create a character sheet and use that as input to all generations, but I just tweak the face manually till it is similar and use ControlNet to prevent it from drifting too far away. The new version is based on SDXL and ControlNet doesn't work nearly as well there. So I had to do a lot more manual fixes (warping the output to change face shape, editing details) to keep it close. Still didn't do quite as good of a job though. Another trick is to start from a generation instead of a sketch, like "princess, black hair, forehead, parted hair" and use that as the basis for the character. When you let the model provide the initial state it is more likely to stick to it because it activates the same region of the model during img2img. Downside is that is how you get bland averaged looking characters, which is what you're usually fighting against with GenAI in general. For example in this case I was always having to push back and weaken her chin because the model wanted to elongate it because it associated that with "princess".

I like the SD1.5 output a bit more too, has a more unique blend of styles and creates better textures. But it also goes totally off the rails way more often. The SDXL model I'm using is NoobAI and it is heavily biased toward flat anime style so you have to lean into that or it gets weird.

Thank for the insight. I think both art styles look really good but I prefer the upper one because it adds even more dark character and she looks even more mind fried in the pictures.. How did you do the pendulum? Was it part of the ControlNet Mask or did you inpaint it in every picture? It seems really difficult to solve it with prompts especially when it becomes her necklace later. Thanks in advance.

It's mostly a manual Photoshop addition (copy paste from a high res main copy) with one img2img inpaint pass with a low denoise to integrate it a bit better (things like adding a shadow under it or where it presses into her chest). The NoobAI model in particular wants to generate a 5 yen coin tied to a string anytime it sees something resembling hypnosis and so sometimes I can just drop a copy of the sphere layer over the coin and it looks good enough.
