This is just more confirmation of what I already figured; If Nightshade were a real person, then she'd be suffering from actual nymphomania.
Her entire life is sex. Her job is sex, all her hobbies revolve around sex (the only exception is reading, but most modern fiction is thinly disguised smut, so more sex), all her friends are fuck-buddies, and her closest romantic relationship is an open relationship that she takes advantage of more often than her partner. Honestly, if Pat wasn't okay with an open relationship, Nightshade probably wouldn't be with him. His 'fetish' is just a convenient excuse.
If she weren't a cartoon character, she'd likely be riddled with diseases and have gone through multiple abortions at this point.

Patrick, as the submissive of the relationship, doesn't have carte-blanche to sleep around like Night Shade does. However, he Can sleep with other people outside of the relationship, so long as Night Shade arranges it. We're given every reason to believe that Patrick could sleep with basically anyone he wanted to, so long as he asked. He's just portrayed as being infatuated with Night Shade to the point that he doesn't Want to sleep with anyone else.

Which is a large part of the issue I have with the depiction of them as a couple; They are not part of a loving, caring relationship. Patrick is an obsessed fanboy who mistakes the benefits he's allowed in exchange for enabling Night Shade's addiction as reciprocation of his affections. Night Shade is a nymphomaniac who takes advantage of Patrick's infatuation to gain the practical benefits of a standard relationship, without being restricted by the reasonable standards of a loving and committed relationship.

They don't really love each other; The relationship they're depicted as having is one of mutual benefit, but only in so far as they each feed the other's addiction.

To be fair to you, this is fiction. And anything's possible in fiction. So beefcakes randomly showing up for fun time, with zero incidents, and no repercussions is completely inconsequential situation in Kadath-verse. From what I understand, there's not exactly a set-up or planned play date for these little surprise escapades to occur. Maybe Pat and Nat have "Do Not Disturb" days/dates, where surprise fun is a "no,no". And the surprise suitors definitely would have to have their own pair of keys to be able to barge into the place.

BUT if none of that is the case, and these studs just walk in whenever they please? That's not confidence, that's recklessness. That being said, the depiction Pat and Nat's relationship has been sort of inconsistent. Feels like the rules and boundaries change with every couple of comics. Given the last few, I wouldn't be surprised if this DID turn out to be some kind of set-up play, though.

@AnzaA1 The issue I have with their relationship is less that it exists, and more that it limits both of these characters for no good reason. The entire thing is forced to the point of being unrealistic, and it keeps me from enjoying the the work as a whole. It disrupts my willing suspension of disbelief, because it Tries to depict them as a loving couple, and fails.

Nadia was a much better character when she wasn't in a relationship; It gave her the freedom to explore a wide and diverse set of kinks, which was the core of her existence as a character. Being with Patrick, narratively, just ties her down in what comics and kinks she can be used in.

Patrick is... deeply uninteresting as a character. He started out as just "Puzzle, but a guy," but has slowly become a blatant self-insert for Kadath's own fetish. Him being into cuckolding was and remains entirely out of left field, and doesn't really jive with what little characterization he's been given. Which is the cornerstone of the problem with putting him with Nadia; It makes it feel like the cuckolding is less His fetish, and more the middle ground the two of them settled on when Nadia discovered Patrick is too much of a soft-boy to explore harder kinks.
Which, of course, reinforces my original stance; The relationship, as depicted, is not one of mutual love. Patrick is loving as a person, and Nadia knows the importance of aftercare, but that's not the same thing.

As shown, I could buy that Nadia dates Patrick because she knows she needs a caretaker to enable her deeply perverse lifestyle, and Patrick is just infatuated with her so he's content with the situation. If the story recognized that, and leaned into it, it would be far more interesting and more believable. Instead, Kadath decided to depict them as a couple in a loving relationship, but forgot that his characters are more interesting when the comic recognizes that the characters have short-comings and actual flaws. It's pretty blatantly obvious he's forcing this as a form of self-insert for his own fetish, which he pretty clearly understands from only a surface level.

For example: It's important in any open relationship that all parties are extremely careful with choosing outside partners, and make sure to vet them before engaging. The possibility of spreading STDs to your partner is too great a risk to just sleep around. Nadia, despite this, regularly continues to pick up randoms she's never met before for one-night stands. She's even shown doing this at her place of work, which is a Big no-no, as that could very easily risk her her job.
A single person who's doing this is free to have no regard for their personal safety and continued financial security; A person who has genuine love for another will keep the other person's well-being in mind, and not needlessly risk it for the sake of their own pleasure. Actual love means valuing someone else's safety and happiness as much, if not more, than your own desire to screw strangers.

Honestly, I enjoy these discussions. It's nice to see a wide range of different perspectives people have of various types of fetishes, stories and relationships. Sure, people get a little too passionate then take things personally sometimes and the ones who just abjectly despise a comic/scenario for even existing in the first place. But overall it's a positive experience for me.

The thing that's kind of a pet peeve for me, is when a plot established Cuck couple NEVER has any intimate/down time with one another, something Kadath, while a bit sparse, has actually portrayed with Nat and Pat on occasion. That takes the intimacy out of the relationship to me, and just makes it two people using each other for a fetish, rather than a couple enjoying it together.
