AI will probably never translate japanese well, only chance it could is if it handled the entire work comprehensively in the same context, still i doubt it could, its often really hard to tell who is even talking, there are often only minor clues, none of which an AI would even recognize. also you kind of have to understand the conversational flow patterns of japanese to know what the hell is going on and different authors have different styles where some are even harder to follow, just like in english,

also many aspects of japanese must be inferred from context

and even when it is translated accurately, if it is too literal it sounds awkward

if you want things translated in a nice, readable, accurate, natural way, it takes humans, and probably will for a long time, if not forever.

@innyinny AI already is able to translate Japanese text quite accurately, Chatgpt 4.0 premium or whatever is capable of fully translating most erotic games you find online (obviously with not taking into consideration Visual Novels) and you can basically play them in their entirety without finding any egregious mistake. The most glaring issues is the occasional mistake with pronouns and the such.

Of course, it lack the quality of a professional translator and sometimes things are lost in the translation due to intricacies of the language, but it's at least a million times better than what you see here on MTLs. Key thing is that you have to pay for it, but from what I have seen people have managed to churn out quite serviceable translations.

If anyone is really interested, go to F95zone and check any game translated by Dazedanon using chatgpt 4.0. I understand the distaste of MTLs as much as the next guy, having had to drop more than a few novels because the translators started using Google translate, but his works are all pretty well translated.
(Why wouldn't human edited AI slop count? At the end of the day we all want well translated projects, but people who are willing to spend 5 years studying Japanese don't have all day to translate your pornography, not all of it at least.)
