As Expedition upon Expedition fails to defeat the Paintress, and as Lumiére faces a dire population crisis, black men, found to be the most virile and most capable of defeating the paintress, are treated as kings, and are the only ones permitted to breed. Fortunately, very few men and women opposed this rule, and even found their new place in society desirable, as they felt the Paintress' stood no chance against the children spawned by this new rule.
