THE STORY, FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T GET IT

Chapter One: Clover, a wolpertinger, has found herself alone in the wilderness on the advice of her mother, who warned her that she was to be sacrificed. After some time, she meets Copper, a fox whose predatorial appearance masks a much kinder, gentler heart. They grow closer, despite Copper refusing to reveal his own background, and Clover falls in love with Copper. Then they bone. As Clover bathes, Copper begins to open up, only to be shocked by the appearance of a mysterious white owl, apparently sending him running.

Chapter Two: In a flashback, Copper escorts his brother Nugg (possibly Nugget) to some sort of rendezvous point, with a plan for Nugg to take Copper's place in some kind of arraigned gifting and mating between him and the Princess of the North so that Copper can escape his own princely duties. Nugg is reluctant, but Copper has faith in his brother. However, these plans are interrupted when Nugg is attacked during his trek by someone who had been eavesdropping on him and Copper earlier.
In another flashback, we are introduced to Fryx, the attacker, and Freya, both of whom are desert foxes. Despite Freya having an established mate, she prefers Fryx, and after some seduction tactics she is successfully plapped and impregnated. Back in the present time (relative to the overall flashback), Fryx faints from the struggles of travelling through the heavy snow, eventually waking up within the Crystal Frost, which I guess is the name of the Northern Kingdom.
Anyways, Fryx is hostile to those who have come to see him, including Queen Ursa, a giant freakin' polar bear. He does remember that he's supposed to be Copper, and gives them that story. As it turns out, the gift that was to be delivered is wolperpowder, which gives those who consume it the ability to have fertile hybrid offspring, which would allow the Princess (a snow-fox) to continue her bloodline. The princess is delighted by this and is readily willing to accept Fryx as her mate. Meanwhile, Schnee, who I think is an advisor to Ursa, suspects that something is amiss, as Fryx does not appear to be "a fox from the forest", and so he sends his sisters out to look for any such figures.

This is the story as of 17 November 2023.
It can be assumed that Chapter One takes place after Chapter Two. Copper is currently MIA, Clover is alone again (for now), Nugg got choked out in the snow, Freya is probably trying to explain the baby bump, and Fryx appears to not want to be in his current position despite almost literally asking for specifically that. Further updates to this comment will come if people continue to lack media literacy and patience.

Where did the desert fox come from? He just randomly appeared and choked Nugg out. He took the gift without knowing what it was, and tried to pass himself off as a red fox... something so stupid it hurts to think about, then went to present himself as the prince wanting to mate with the princess, but also acting the entire time as if he was disgusted by and wants to fight with everyone around him, while also longing for the female he impregnated back in the desert. NOTHING MAKES SENSE.

Why would a desert fox be involved in forest fox dealings?
Why would a desert fox think he could survive in the arctic?
Why would he leave the female he really wanted to be with, only to go someplace and present himself to be mated to one he doesn't want or like? It's plain from the fighting that he was willing to fight for her.
Why can't the arctic animals tell the difference between a red fox and a desert fox? If they knew he was coming, they had to have some idea what the species looked like, right?

I think the complaints of people not understanding what's going on stem from the struggle to understand why any of it is even happening in the first place. It's confusing because it makes no sense.

@DracosBlackwing I'd say it's a mix of that and the sort of bait-and-switch the comic does between chapters 1 and 2.

It started pretty simple, two animals that would normally be predator and prey (well, Clover's a wolpertinger, but she's barely different to a regular bunny) warming up to each other and eventually fucking. Nothing novel, but it didn't have to be to be appealing; they're cute, they're cute together, and the art quality helps make that shine. Got some sprinkled intrigue in that chapter on Clover's backstory, and hinting that Copper's got some baggage himself. Great so far.

Then the following chapter proceeds to toss all that aside to tell a completely different story. Sure, in the same world as chapter 1, but this time centered around someone who seems he can't help but be an absolute dick to everyone he knows and doesn't know. So now, we're following along a much more unlikable protagonist compared to our previous duo (whose motivations are highly dubious at best and outright self-contradictory at worst), while also attempting to greatly expand on the worldbuilding teased in chapter 1 all at once. It's framed as though it's trying to explain Copper's backstory in the most roundabout way possible, except he is little more than a minor character in chapter 2 caught up in Fryx's storm of derision, quickly forgotten about to focus on someone else.

To which, I wonder, what's even the point of chapter 2 in chapter 1's story? Or the point of chapter 1 in chapter 2's story? If there is one, it's taking its sweet ass time to get to it.

I suppose. Bit of an underhanded tactic to sneak in a story about an unsympathetic and honestly pretty dumb antihero after leading with a cute duo, assuming that was even the intention from the start. Now it's taken up two-thirds of the comic or so with no concrete signs we'll ever go back, or at the very least, switch up the focus.

It's been a pretty big disappointment. I would've most certainly preferred the comic kept building on Clover and Copper's dynamic while simultaneously exploring the lore surrounding this world in the background. Not that a complete shift is a doomed idea from the start, but it's also far harder to execute, and the replacement better be as compelling if not more so than the comic's original offering, which this isn't. I've found myself checking in from time to time just to see if the current arc is over, to the point where if Fryx got a heart attack and died suddenly next update, I honestly wouldn't care less, since that'd likely mean this story can finally move on.
