Its not so much rigged as it is painfully scaled
The game is legitimately one of the best auto chess games ive played, but the matchmaking is incredibly good at matching you against opponents with a similar powerlevel to you, which do to the way that empowering and gaining units means you can end up against people who are conceptually the same strength but are in fact infinitely more or less weak than you. I know the people I've heard complain the most have been whales who get paired against exclusively other whales (which is in some ways an upside)
