Strange, though, from the point of view of social demand that the protagonist should be a human, and an earthling, to top it all, this story should fail. Or have a repulsive effect on readers. The editors and publishers would persist on this. But... The story WORKS! With GREAT FEROCITY, if I may say so. Through the progression of the plot we forget the fact, that the protagonist is not human. We forget, that elves don't even exist. We forget, that magic is a Deus Ex Machina. Why? Because we UNDERSTAND feelings and worries of the protagonist. We see them, the catfolk, elves, dwarves, orcs, lizard-people, etc., as "humans in different skin". We all are sentient beings, after all. No matter the form. This is why, elf or not, the protagonist of this story DRIVES the action forward. And I, like other readers, can't wait to see how deep he will fall in the rabbit hole.
