Honestly wish we had seen the girl afterwards (even if dog slave doesn't) so we the viewers know whether step-brother was honest, or whether he "eliminated" her. While it is safe to assume its elimination, since typically IF they have the girls accepting of the situation they normally join in the torment as jerks themselves, so her absence leads to an expected answer.

I love my brother, but we can't be together.
I know!
I'll change my brother on a fundamental level so he's not recognizable as himself!
But seriously, I don't get plots like this. You fall in love with a person for who they are, then you fundamentally want to change them? Like, it's pretty heavily implied on the first page that the little brother loves the older brother, in part because the older brother has been supportive of him. And yet he makes them into a dog with so little agency that she can't be supportive anymore?
