@Larequiem: I wouldn't call Murasaki evil. In D&D terms, she is lawful to a fault, but not malicious. The true source of the tragedy is the gap in communication. They have been travelling together for over two years and Nodoka still doesn't understand Murasaki's nature and is instead projecting human expectations on an unfeeling demon sword. And Murasaki repeats again and again that she'll never understand Nodoka because she can't feel empathy.
All the bad stuff that happens from p.40 onwards could have been avoided if they had just found someone to translate and mediate.

This feels a lot like the double empathy problem.
