@Genoshia The druid can be "trans" in the manner that a tree may be monoecious, dioecious, polygamous, or cosexual. In this situation we are likely referring to a dioecious tree which has switched the sex of flowers, either the tree or branch. There are known examples of this, and isn't uncommon.

It could be inferred that the druid may be of either sex until flowering, or that it has transitioned from one sex to another.

Edit, to others downvoting Genoshia, consider that the individual may simply be unaware of tree or flower sexes beyond the example of cosexual varieties.
