A book I've wanted for some time, but when I saw that both were being sold at the same time I jumped on the opportunity. This is an anthology work from various artists who would later go on to be animators as well as mangaka, many of whom were inspired by Haruhiko Mikimoto's aesthetics with Macross and Megazone 23. There is also the additions of Kemonomimi motifs and cheesecake illustrations. The printing is well done as are tons of the manuscripts. The circle's name loosely translates to "The Rowdy Oddballs". Based on the dates within the book, this text more than likely did not appear at Comiket 28 and appears to be a high school manga club.
Miyuki Kawaichi (河内美雪), who went on to be a relatively successful mangaka, contributed a manuscript to this first volume. This work follows a trend of what I personally deem as 'animator's doujinshi' in that the artists work very closely to the motifs of then-established and revered otaku animators and were very close in that sphere themselves.
Additionals from a few of the authors for context:
"To all the staff—thank you for your careful manuscripts. Thanks to you, we were able to create a good club magazine. Also, thank you to Takashi-kun and Ueno-kun for helping with the editing. Well then, everyone, let’s work hard on Vol. 2 as well." - Tori Takashi (鳥 隆)
I’ve just finished writing the table of contents. Today was a terrible day… I skipped first period, and in second period I was dozing off… But I hate the infirmary, so I wouldn’t go even if I died (well, I’m not dead yet…). In third period I zoned out, focusing on some quiet shop set and doing calculations— click click click—it kept poking at my brain. In the end I shrieked my way back to club. And tomorrow is the English mock exam… Ahh, I’m hopeless… I want to go home but I can’t… Ahh, I’m already worn out. I’m completely done for. I guess it’s for tomorrow… This time I barely had anything to write, and it was all difficult stuff. Ugh, what a mess. —Kawachi Miyuki (河内美雪)
