One of the most historically important works in the sphere of yaoi and BL, Lovely has gathered a cult following and collector status as it was one of the first works to proliferate both Comiket with BL/Yaoi/Shonen Ai. It's break off sub-imprint, Rappori, is famous for being the first text to coin the term Yaoi as a theme for absurdist fiction - "it has no meaning, it has no beginning, it has no end."

This work, while not pornographic in theme, is important in that it was both a doujinshi and a magazine imprint, one of which was at the heart of the Kanazawa Group, which produced many of the post-24-year-old group. Via Kudan, "there were quite a few members who were directly or indirectly involved with Lovely, including Sakata Yasuko, Hashimoto Takako, Hanai Yukiko, Hatzu Akiko, Hisakake Hikomi, Torizu Akiji, and Zouda Toji, just to name a few."

Lovely in itself was managed by the mangaka Yasuko Sakata (坂田 靖子) and was founded technically in 1972. Sakata personally corresponded with Hagio Moto about her work - many of these correspondences were displayed recently in an important museum exhibition. When she was in her third year of junior high school, Sakata founded Lovely and had already garnered a following as a talented artist within the doujinshi sphere, making her debut in 1975 proper with "Saikon Kyousokyoku" in the shoujo imprint Hana to Yume (花とゆめ).

Additionals:

This particular work, while published sometime in May of 1979, would later make an appearance at Comiket 12 for vol.2 due to recruitment purposes. Many of the artists were already massively well known, and thus fueled the magazine's long life.

The page formats per page are wildly different, so some page sizes are a bit smaller to compensate for these changes and to make them accurate. The book itself is pamphlet sized though is over 100 pages, so some of the manuscripts look a bit blurry in areas.
