As I understand it, they were not even planning for the rabbit to have fast mechanics when they made it one of the prototypes. They were toying with an idea of some 'pick up and throw blocks' mechanic with its ears.
And instead wound up with hedgehog because 'roll into balls' for a different kind of mechanic
