The -1 being +1 thing is entirely dependent on context. Of course they're not the same numbers as real numbers! But they're the same number modulo 2, or, they are in the same residue class. They're equally good square roots of 1, you just have to pick a different branch of the function for either. That sort of thing.

The shopping cart zapping you due to static.
The Grocery store I frequent had that problem for years. Now I have a weird habit of touching the handles of any grocery-store fridge with my elbow first in case I get zapped.
They solved it by attaching a small metal wire at the bottom of the cart that drags on the floor and put plastic covers on the entire cart. Static electricity gone, but that habit still remains. I noticed other shoppers still do it too lol.

@thatdude923 I was having real bad static issues at my work, I read somewhere that holding your keys out and using that to discharge the static makes it way easier and less... shocking
