Here we see that one of the reasons why she put up a strong facade was that she was under pressure to strive to be the best for the sake of her family. Back in the archery club, members gossip about Ayano going out with Hagiwara—ironically against the very rules that made her break up with Sato. Members point out how she always misses practice whenever Hagiwara isn't there either and point out how annoying she is for a first-year. Her father also lectures her when he finds out about her skipping archery club, and in a moment of rebelliousness, she answers back that she isn't father's tool. Then she has another breakdown, thinking how useless she will be if she gets kicked out and drops the club. She starts thinking Hagiwara would soothe her, but he doesn't care much about her—he has already hooked another member of the club and now tells her to go please his friends if she wants to be forgiven.
He treats her as a mere fleshlight/onahole, using her for a gangbang (group sex with multiple men), and then cruelly discards her when he's done. Sato goes the sigma route, just focusing on himself—training his body every day to the point of becoming the ace of the club, winning tournaments, and having random bitches going after him. But he knows something broke in him; he can no longer feel sad or joyful. He keeps moving forward, and the only times his heart aches is when he remembers the despair from back then. His goal was to stand by the person he admired, and now he's surpassed Ayano but can't be happy about it. It's time to move on as the last tears drop from his eyes.
4 years later
The National University Kyudo Selection Tournament is taking place, and both Ayano and Sato attend the same contest. Both reflect on their weaknesses and their will to not fail again. They pass each other, both turn around, and she becomes teary-eyed as they can finally have a proper meeting after all that time.
