For anyone that's confused, everything from page 54 to 70 only happens in the protagonist's head. The time travel apparently did happen because she still has the damaged mug, but it didn't result in anything meaningfully changing in his present situation.

My guess is that the author was going for some sort of "It's better to have a real relationship that didn't work out than an affair that meant nothing" moral story...or something. Never mind that using the story's logic if being unable to defend Reika against the rapist dudes means he's not qualified to date her then he equally has no qualifications to be married to his wife lol

The author got literally spammed by angry comments in twitter and his own page about this ending, the good thing is he actually acknowledge that it was a shit ending, the bad is there's no confirmation of making an actual proper ending that makes sense. Well. I actually preferred Mai over Reika. So I am not "fully" against the ending. But I admit last two chapters were spinning the story as shit in the toilet. The best ending would be ending the series after the threesome with both women - he would have both Mai and Reika. Instead author started unnecessary drama for the sake of drama. Honestly I dont get why so many Japanese and Korean authors ruin the endings.

This just has to be one of the biggest cases of an author completely missing the point about why his work was well received by his audience. What a shitshow of an ending, so much so that he even had to draw a last minute sex between mc and the gyaru because, you know, that's what brought ppl in the first place... Just hope that his next works have better conclusions because his skills are undeniable.

The only platform that this work hasn't received hash (relatively) critics from are the author's personal fanbox (subscription based platform) where comments are typically curated and from diehard fans.

You know, its crazy to think this series was the perfect jumpstart for a hentai artist: amazing character design, a hot story, HUGE sales and massive popularity... overall pure pros and not a single con, right up until the last 2 chapters. He was in such an amazing position that I honestly don't think I'm exaggerating when I say this could have made him the next Norigorou or Manno, and all he had to do was give it an ending more in line with the first few chapter, ride the wave, establish himself, and later explore the time travel story in another setting where the impact would be less damaging. But alas, we got what we got. If he fades into obscurity after this, it will 100% be because of how it ended.

Frankly I feel like even a story line where MC gets more together with his hot as fuck wife would've worked so much better than "and then the man who cheats on his hot wife, loses his mistress".

Like, hypotheticals of course. First three chapters, the same. Fourth chapter focusing more on the wife, MC realizes how much he underappreciates her. Fifth chapter, another threesome, but Gyaru tries to get the MC to focus more on his wife, maybe make it some kind of last hurrah for the three of 'em. Bonus sixth chapter, Gyaru moves in and they're just a poly relationship now.

And this took me like two minutes to think of. I'm sure someone who's job it is could easily do so much better. But it'd still be better than what we fucking got. Hell "break up with your wife you don't have feelings for and hook up with your boss that you're actually in love with" would still be better than what we got.

I'll probably just stick to reading chapters 1-3 whenever I revisit this piece.

This was just messy. If the story went all in on him going after her and therefore not marrying his actual wife, it would still be better than this. Or just don't do a time travel shit and let it play out would still be better than this, people probably still wouldn't like it, but it would be better.
It just ends up with the time travel thing being vague, which is even more bullshit than having time travel at all. The story keeps going back on forth on whether or not the time travel happened. First it was "The broken mug is there so it happened!" then "the clinking of ice on the glass woke him up from his delusion, she never gave him a dirty look so no time travel!" FUCK YOU YOU FUCKSTICK THIS IS THE WORST WAY OF KEEPING SHIT GOING WAY PAST WHERE IT SHOULD HAVE ENDED

This isn't NTR and it's not Vanilla: I have no idea what it is. If you wanted to do NTR, do it: it would have been bad, but much better than this. Is this supposed to be polyamory? I don't know, but if it is, there would have been better ways to implement it.

An NTR story that ends in polyamory would be interesting, and I'd applaud you even if it went wrong, but it's something that has to be created from scratch, not inserted into an already established story. Instead of overusing this, create a new doujinshi. Two: one for polyamory and one for time travel. Mixing all of that together was awful.

I like NTR and I like Vanilla, but I don't like this. It's a waste of good art.

So after reading it, I don't hate the ending as much as others. I just don't think it was earned. The time travel was unnecessary and it felt like a forced plot device just to make the MC give up on Reika and focus on his own marriage. Had the plot been handled better and maybe gave time to develop things between the four characters as a dynamic, I wouldn't mind if all four characters ended up as good friends where Reika has her own husband and the affair between her and MC stopped. Although chapter 3 was peak and the series really could've ended there if they omitted the panels introducing her Reika's Ex-BF. I truly believe a cheating/NTR story turned "vanilla" could work. It would be hypocritical to not think so given that NTRs are just "vanilla" or pure romance that has been corrupted and broken apart.

I really didn't like that fakeout of MC and Reika having sex while their spouses were asleep. Fakeouts suck and are cheap. Too many NTR/cheating stories rely on them for more shock value out of readers. I repeat, I don't hate the "core" of what this story was going for, I just think it was poorly executed and probably needed more chapters to flush it out rather than a time travel plot that's suppose to "fix" things.

I hope Nakamo will make better stories in the future and don't let this deter them. Otherwise, it really would be a waste of their art talents.

I would say a worst version of this story's attempt is "Bungaku Shoujo wa Some Rareru" by Great Mosu. That one is far more deserving of hate with how it ended, but also how it retroactively made everything the heroine allowed to happen to her become far more upsetting.
