The first edition / release of the Char's Success Story imprint by the circle Let's Play Around with Char (1979 - 1982), featuring the works of Shio Sato (Haruka Sato, Simone Yotsuya), Ryutoshi (Ryutei, Ryutei-an, sometimes Tomitoshi, TomeTome, Tome-an) Lcy & Yaroll (Toru Yaroll).
As documented and known in the realm of Gundam doujinshi, Char's Success Story is one of the first erotic yaoi novelizations that was ever created during the original run of Mobile Suit Gundam. While the circle AMA (Tokyo Animenia Army) was the first to release an erotic Gundam parody at Comiket, Shio Sato's works would come after and become a cult classic. Due to the fame of the imprint, the circle was able to last for some time befor disbanding in 1982, supported in part by a voracious fanbase in their native Yokohama as well as broad features in subculture magazines such as Animage and OUT. This particular text was limited to 10 copies initially before being expounded upon for participation in Winter Comiket.
"“When I write stories or scenarios, people around me read them and give various reactions. That made me think—maybe I should try to have more people read my work. That was the original starting point.”
“At first, I only intended to make about 10 copies, but thanks to Yarōru, Shisei, and others, it somehow turned into an offset print (!!), and the number of copies increased several times over.”
“If it sold out, that would be amazing—but more importantly, to those who picked up this book, I’m truly grateful.”
“As a small thank-you, we’d love to hear your impressions of the book. From those who send feedback, we will hold a drawing and present prizes: – Autographs from voice actors (Ikeda Shūichi ×2, Kaneto Shiozawa ×1) – And for two winners, special copies made by Shisei (two types: ‘Char’ and ‘Garma’)”
“Deadline: end of December.”
This work seldom goes to auction and has never been documented before as vol.1 was sold in both limited quantities and released with a high turn over. I was informed of this auction and acquired this text and the subsequent 3 works that came after, alongside two supplemental parody texts by the circle. This doujin has been scanned in 4K/HD and in PNG to preserve its legacy and will be eventually given to the Yoshihiro Yonezawa Memorial Library when possible. This work is exceedingly important in the scope of Comiket's history and the work of three authors who made an impeccable impression.
"The group “Association for Playing with Char as a Theme” will be releasing a copybook (one B4 sheet) titled:
“Jaburo Fan Club” “Isn’t M’Quve Fan Club’s Tone Nice?” “Ma’Quve, Iselina, Hamon Fang”
It has been decided that this will be published. This text will also be distributed at Comiket on December 1979. If you would like a copy, please send 100 yen in cash (concealed) along with your name and address to the address listed under “Okuritsuke” (submission/contact)."
Scanning services are available! Simply send your inquiry to any of the contacts above and I will get back to you in 24 hours at best. Discord is @Adoggoart
