Machine Translated with little changes.
Most SFXs in bubbles were not translated. I got lazy.

Can't wait for a TL on this one.

I really like how the stockings stay on for most of it.

Look, I get it, but this was untranslated for THREE YEARS for a pretty popular author. We should be happy it took that long, and wonder why nobody bothered to pick it up.

part 2: I'd have LOVED a manual translation. Preferred it. But we had ZERO reason to think this was ever getting one. This story was so old, frames of it were used in one of Poncocchan's later works (Soen ni Natteta Osananajimi ga Okuchi Onaho Gayoi Shite Kuru Mikkakan); one which WAS translated and THEN it was decensored. There is a wide, wide world of difference between "be happy you have one" when someone was likely going to translate it, and "be happy you have one" when it is beyond clear that the alternative was literally nothing.

Look, I don't really want to make a big deal about this. And I don't really think this specific post is that bad. The typesetting is fine. And the text can be followed through and seems to have a coherent plot going.

But I can't let go of this "you should be happy" thing.

The thing is raws exist. Usually when there's an artist I like I browse the artist's tag and if there are untranslated works I can just... open the raws instead and enjoy the illustrations. If the plot seems interesting I can run a MTL on it and it would just accomplish the same as a posted MTL. So it's not like these MTL'd posts really are really giving us much of an utility.

And I mean sure, the typesetting can make it easier to follow and this is less effort than having to click on the MTL button ourselves. So there is some utility added by these things. But it is not that much. And the problem is that although there is a useful aspect to them, there are also negatives.

These MTL posts take space from the front page and searches and distract us from proper TLs. Those real scanlators out there really do spend a lot of time learning a second language and then with the translation. This is a very special skill that needs to be nurtured and respected. And 10 years ago it would have been a career prospect for some of them. But now you have got to wonder how many of them will eventually just get discouraged from the people pretending that the MTL is good enough of a replacement for what they do. I know the number is non-zero.

Also, since you like reading doujins, I guess you likely enjoy consuming official Manga and perhaps anime releases in English. And I don't really need to explain how the normalization of this tech is going to be bad news for us fans.

On the other side of the coin, some of have jobs. And many others are looking for one. And this is probably the reason why these MTLs get so much pushback and complaining. Because holy shit, did AI make this "job" stuff absolutely worse for so many of us. I can tell you that never in my life I have seen a technology be forced upon people as hard and as badly as this one. So, after a week of dealing with AI bullshit perhaps the only thing that could stop me from traveling back in time to 1811, grabbing a big hammer and starting to smash Textile-making machines, is looking at drawings of big boobed anime girls begging for dick. But even here I have to deal with this AI stuff and it's so tiresome.

But really, even with all those things considered. If the Translation was really good. Maybe I could just be selfish and let's say that we no longer need translators and we could move on. But the problem is that it is not good. Translation is a very complex thing full of nuances that even trip expert humans and the tools can't keep up. LLMs sure help make the resulting text seem coherent and not have grammar errors, but it still has so many issues. The worst part of it is that the LLMs making the text make sense makes it harder to spot the mistranslations.

In general I won't really oppose these things that much. Just tag them appropriately and I might even enjoy some. But nah, we are not really better-off.

My god, what a long rant. The post was even tagged properly, I believe you can even ignore these types of posts.

I can only say a few sentences. Technology improves over time, as tech improves many loses their jobs. But that doesnt stop it. We can only adapt. And yes translation is one of those jobs that will be very hard to replace with AI as youve mentioned.
But still, I dont get why people are against LLMs, its not even stealing or replacing proper translators. They can still do the proper translation for the manga/thing. Even I prefer that, but the thing is, no one did. So its up to us. I chose the easy way and had MTL do the job cause I am still trying to learn the language very slowly, which will take years.

The other thing I disagree on is that how the tech is bad for the fans. If the tech can translate it to a language they know even tho its not perfect, it gives more chance for readers to know the artist/story. Which might create a new fan that will actually support them.
