My counter argument to Abuelito's hate tirade:

I like seeing a heterosexual couple having sex.

I do not like seeing a homosexual male couple having sex.

But I do enjoy seeing a homosexual female couple having sex.

In the case of the hetero sexual couple, the male character is a stand-in for the male reader, which he uses as a substitute dick of sorts.

@ Koroshi, Self insertion, as you put it, is not something we're all consciously doing. Rather we are vicariously living through the male exponent while still thinking it's "hot as fuck" to watch. Additionally when you say "in touhous case men just don't belong there" that is simply your opinion masquerading as truth. Everything I have written is also my opinion based on what I've learned in school and my time reading various types of h-mangas, the observations I made are just a casual breakdown of what I think might be occurring psychologically to a male reader. In this case I used my own perspective as a male to create and support a theory but not an actual fact.

@ kserox, I agree in that I much prefer vanilla to anything else, as such I make it a point not to read the dark fics as soon as I spot one unless I'm told it has a really good scenario. But based on how you wrote your comment it sounds as though you choose to read those doujins, why? Their meant to target another person's fetishes, if you don't like them then don't read them and pretend the others don't exist. Also I have over 7Gigs of Touhou doujins archived on my Hentai-Drive that is mostly vanilla so it's not like that genre is scarce in touhou.

Thanks for this good wall of text. I think I have another point standing for futanari here, in touhou.
In touhou we have tons and tons of doujins with mindbreaking (drug)(gang)rape. And damn, how am I supposed to self-insert into bunch of faceless douchebags that hurting the girls I like so much? Because I obviously like touhou girls, why would I want to see them mind- and|or body-broken?
And the reverse situation - when male character got horribly killed and|or eaten, because femdom and evil youkais everywhere lol. Every time I see that plot trick I feel heavily confused. Was I supposed to sympathize with some spineless dude who got raped and killed in the end? Femdom is okay but killing MC is... not sure. Happy sex/good love stories is quite rare nowadays.

So, what do we have here? Futanari love stories are usually better in any way. Safer, I guess. Risk of some plot trick you won't like is much less.

I can empathize with male or female characters without needing anything like that, as long as they're characters I actually like.
