Yes, to be technically correct I suppose she should have said, "You'd be surprised how soon darkness falls, this far North.", but what she did say sounds perfectly normal to us Canadians.

What bothered me far more than a character speaking in not-so-technically-correct English in a Norse 'saga' was the fact that there were no steersmen or lookouts on the ships...which is very un-Viking-like! No wonder the Serpent took them unawares...
