I've noticed Japan has a real love-hate boner for the USA. Pretty much invariably any foreigner in Japanese media is American, and English speaking ones at that. But for as often as the portrayal is positive, it's also a negative stereotype (regardless of how accurate it is). WW2 has left them in a bit of an abusive relationship with America. And it's weird to see from the outside looking in.
