What can I say about this? The story work is amazing and interesting. The concept is believable? It draws you in and makes you want the rest of the story. The whole things is darker and more gritty than the original story, which I'm sure was the intention.

But here's my problem with it, and many other comics like it. Have you noticed how determined everyone is to write something about the Zootopia movie that's dark and involves things like rape, death of the main characters, murder and so forth? SO many comics pursue the idea of tearing down the concepts of the original and making into this 'Dark Knight' version of the intended world; they even made a reference to Batman in this comic. Why does everyone want to see the concept of Zootopia taken to such dark places?

The writer in this had some ideas that didn't have to go in this direction. He mentioned a city of avians, and I'm sure he had a city of reptiles in mind as well. Why not go along one of those paths and leave the death and insanity and murder and darkness behind? I liked Zootopia because, despite there being a villain in the movie, they got what they deserved and it ended, if not in a 'happy ever after' then a 'still going strong' sort of way. The real world is already packed with darkness... I feel like we shouldn't have to infect other worlds with the same just in order to believe in them.

@DracosBlackwing You do know the original story for Zootopia was scrapped because they felt it was too dark right? I'd say this kinda follows the tone of what Zootopia could of ended up as, but didn't so it would be more kid friendly. Disney doesn't like to do dark especially when it comes to animated movies. Disney does family movies that are supposed to make people laugh smile and feel good, but original story for Zootopia didn't fit that and it was changed. Instead of predators wearing tame collars and being dominated by prey animals you have them getting along peacefully until night howlers are used to make them release the beast against their own will.

@ Darlumina From the stuff I've seen on Zootopia, both on disk and from various online things about the movie, the reason that it looks like it was changed was because the story just didn't seem to work.
That much of the whole collar storyline, was A) based around nick, who was terribly cynical, and brought the overall tone of the movie down, and the one scene with the pappa bear giving his cub one of the shock collars for his birthday. It was a great scene, but it was to much of an anchor for the entire movie. The fact they had to change the direction of the movie midstream, shows a level of bravery that you rarely see in moviemakers anymore.
The fact that Mead acknowledges this, takes it down the darker road, but still manages to maintain the feel of the original, and balances the dark and the light sides of the story speaks volumes on this guy's ability.
I'm so glad he's able to do this because I'm seeing way to many zootopia fan comics become outright depressfics.

I waited until the very end before I made any comment. Now that it's over all I can say is, "This was an amazing series." While reading through it as a comic it was playing out in my head like an animated T.V. series, and it was amazing. I know Disney will not make something as semi-dark as this into an animated series, but I still a great experience all the same. And the afterlife scene really drove the whole series home for me. Now there are some moments that I hate were unresolved or given less screen time. While I hate that for some moments, it works for others. So it's a little mixed. But it is still an amazing comic series and I'm glad I like everyone else here followed it through to the end. My final score for this series is 4.7 out of 5. Again an amazing series, some unresolved moments take away, but not too much, and still comes out amazing. Great work MEAD and I hope to see more amazing things from you and hope you can make a great career out of your work.
