The inability to comment AND vote has always been annoying to me, but in this situation it's actively blocking the ability to converse and penalize bad posts.

The downvotes depend on the comment. Chronicler and Bookrat are part of the common strain of people who make short comments that are some variation of "this pleases me" - inane, pointless nonfeedback. That group needs to give the gallery 5 stars and save comments for when they actually have something to say.

The downvotes for LastKing and Reaper are for multiple reasons. Those include bad English/writing and use of emoticons, but the more nuanced reason is the shilling. Now, being helpful is fine. Linking is fine. Artists commenting to say "hey, I'm the artist, thanks for enjoying my work and please support me at this link" a la Aomizuan in https://e-hentai.org/g/643778/ada73f6449/ is awesome. However, third parties going "lol, I'm totally throwing money at this!" and "hey, I'll 'help' this well known, profligate artist by posting the link that's IN THE FIRST FUCKING IMAGE." are annoying stains. Also, fuck JAB and its "how much can we slow down the drip of content before people leave?" model.
