Oh man, I loved ExoSquad. A Western attempt to create their own Gundam-esque mecha series.
I liked ExoSquad because it portrayed a "War Story" tale quite well, with serious themes and the heavy casualties of war in-general, as well as named characters' deaths, on both sides of the conflict over control of the Sol system.
Probably my only gripe (back then) was how the XO of the ExoSquad (outwardly tough & stone-faced, but inwardly deeply caring of her squad-mates' survival/welfare) carried a big romantic torch for her ExoSquad Commander {I cannot remember their names any more}. I thought it was a good 'ship, his idealism leadership balanced by her tough pragmatism support.
Sadly, it got overshadowed by the female rookie squad member's (the blonde in this gallery) inter-species romance with the Third-in-Command character (the male NeoSapien generally depicted in this gallery); and thus the [XO + Squad Commander] romantic angle got lost in its wake. :( .
One of the strange things I noticed about this show: Whoever did the character design seemed to be a fan of the old 80s band "Flock of Seagulls", since he gave many of the characters (even background ones) some outrageous hair styles ^_^
