Ancient-Alien, those are not nearly as happy go lucky as this one was. It's basically a form of slavery where people are sold like cattle to pay off previous debts or people society doesn't want. Once someone is bought they essentially become the property of the owner. Some cover up the idea with terms like "wife" while others flat out say ownership. The last one in particular is pretty rough.

Interesting idea for a tank though, showing both the negatives and positives of a system like this. While these two had a happy ending (and I guess the two in the first link) it doesn't happen that way for everyone.
