Well, the first page hints at the "adventurer" having saved her from monsters, in this case apparently demons, so he more than likely referred to them.

Nevertheless, moral of the story is pretty clear: don't trust extremely kind strangers. Especially not when you're a cute young girl with no belongings in an alternate world full of monsters.
