I feel that is is more depressing than bittersweet. The sweetness here is extremely twisted, and the payoff feels as depressing as getting a kick up the balls. A literal kick in the balls that murders your boner. Some people can't fap to good vanilla, and I guess I can't fap to depressing stories.
Pity, too, since the art is so to my liking.

Is 'human pillar' translation intentional? I mean, it's obvious from the context, that the boy was sent to the oni as a sacrifice to ensure good harvest, so why did you pick 'human pillar' over 'sacrifice/human sacrifice'?

There are other parts in the story where they refer to him as a sacrifice using different (more common) terms, and since the sacrifices were literally being transformed into objects, I figured "human pillar" was a better translation. I can't imagine the author didn't choose that term for a reason.

At first, I thought it was the former. The other sacrifices, the pillars, are eternal. At first, I thought what he asked for was to become a pet, a mortal with a dramatically shortened lifespan, but one during which he might have hoped to monopolize her attention, and become special to her by emphasizing the briefness of their time together (possibly, in a cruel sense, making himself special by being one of the only pillars of which she would lose every trace; or maybe he simply wanted to be be a belonging with sentience, who could still interact with her and vice versa).
But maybe he just had to be with her forever, like the other pillars, yet still wanted to be held especially dear and carressed.

In his shoes, I think I'd rather have stayed human. It seemed to me like she might've preferred that, too.
