Don't mind me. I'm here with a. Friendly reminder that Pija is a plagiarist who only "got better" because he started to copy/trace Inoue Kiyoshirou's (mostly but not only) works and this particular one is no exception.

Some, but not even close to all, examples:

I know some of you guys are ok with it and I'm perfectly fine with it, but just pointing out for the ones who are not.

And in case you think he didn't do it this time, here's an example I found just now.

Yeah, he copies. More artists do it than you'd think, sadly.

It does seem like it's helped him a lot. Which hey, that's not a bad thing. Still not cool to do though.

I mean, his stuff is still fap worthy. Just not as good as the guy he copies/references heavily from.
I await the day where he can truly stand on his own two feet as an artist, because he's got the potential for sure.

Yeah. Artist scopy each other a lot but the amounts of copying Pija does in particular and the fact that 95% of it is the same artist is just shameless. He couldn't even bother to gather more reference to copy from and just did the same guy for 2 years.
I have never seen it being as bad as it is in Pija's case and I would lie if I said that, all things considered, his popularity is not making me kind of salty lol

@CgKaleb: I'm interested in that, do you have other "plagiarists" in mind?
(I read Zasetsuou had to stop because of that. I think he returned as Sanjuurou since but I saw no discussions about it.)

Personally I don't mind as long as the artist is talented all around, which I think Pija is, at least nowadays.
I even find it kinda nice that we get to see art from dark artists vanillized, considering I could literally never enjoy Inoue Kiyoshirou's. It's just making me want to thank both.

It seems that pose plagiarism is a worse offense than style plagiarism, but for me it's more or less on the same level. Like, I don't get why Umakuchi Shouyu is published in the same magazine as Homunculus, or how people manage to read Shibasaki Syouzi (which I like very much) without seeing Naruko Hanaharu. I would expect that to stir up protests as well.

Straight up plagiarism like this one? Nope. At least not the ones with a collection of proof. But there are lots of examples of artists very obviously copying each other's styles to the point where I can't even tell the difference. Takeda Hiromitsu is probably the most copied one I've ever seen and I genuinely can't tell him apart from people like Sian and Sanagi Sanjirou (haven't heard about him copying either but maybe I'm wrong). And there is absolutely nothing wrong when surface style is the only thing that is really copied.
And there is nothing wrong with "pose plagiarism" either since there are only so many poses you can fuck with lol. What really is wrong with this one is that he didn't just get inspired by Kiyoshirou's works or, for example, copied them for the sake of study and did his own thing in similar style later. He opened his books and copied from them directly, possibly even traced in some cases and went on to sell it as his own work. Fuck that.

Pija back then was my favorite artist because of his Vivired operation doujin
The art there surely has its own uniqueness and I loved it
Years later when I look at his art I thought it was someone new with the same name or something, I could have never imagine his art woyld change so dramatically

He copies poses and composition, but he clearly draws things himself as they are not 100% the same as a trace should be. The Inoue influence is gigantic and clear to anyone who knows that artist. Uninspired maybe, but not the same as T2 straight tracing model photos IMO. Also copying like this doesn't make your execution better, he could trace the poses and his art would still look shit if he wasn't a decently skilled artist anyways.

Pija is one of my favorite artists even knowing the fact he copies some artist. To be honest, copying others is bad as it removes your creativity and originality. But artists learn from copying others especially references on the internet which is a lot of them just searching with google.

This saddens me tbh but it can't be helped since I myself copy other's work for me to improve.
(I'm just ranting don't mind me, plus the manga is great!)

@CgKaleb: "And there is absolutely nothing wrong when surface style is the only thing that is really copied."
I'm fine with it, but I do think it's wrong. The artist's trademark is something very personal IMO if it's something you can only link to that person.

But there are edge cases with style too. You could say Sanagi Torajirou slowly evolved into Takeda Hiromitsu but it's been so progressive that I sort of see it as the natural evolution of his style. I think the difference remains reasonable. I also happen to find TH's style pretty well balanced (generic in a good way, if you will), so I would expect artists unintentionally landing close to him more easily than with Ishikei or Hisasi.

"He opened his books and copied from them directly, possibly even traced in some cases and went on to sell it as his own work."
I'm not sure you can sum it up that easily but I get your reaction.
I've seen pixiv accounts banned for tracing simply a couple pictures so I dunno. Maybe there's more to the story.

Well hopefully all this copying will help he develop his own art style, if he can get something kind of like this but with his own spin to it that would fantastic

I don't think this "he's already good enough on his own" argument is very reasonable. First of all he wouldn't be still doing the copying if it was the case. And second: I think you can see Pija's true skill peaking out of some of the smaller panels. Look at the neck of the guy on pg10. Look at how sloppy the ass of the girl looks on the final page after 24 pages of being just fine. You can check his other works too and pay attention to shoulders/hands and feet. His fundentals are still rather poor when he is not copying directly.

And you really shouldn't pretend that he is some sort of newbie on the start of a journey. Hs pixiv page is 10 years old and he is already one of the best selling artists on Comiket. He never bothered to get good on his own and there is zero incentive for him to change unless his shenanigans go public.
