Meh, pretty standard operating procedure. I would actually recommend getting reference models, and figuring out how they work instead of using 2D references- 2D is full of cheats, and anime is a whole language of art cheats. If you have Zbrush, recommend looking into using hard surface modeling techniques to create better realized anime characters.
