Pretty sure it's not a dream, Furohile Zero was something of a prequel/teaser for this, not an epilogue. It being named Zero pretty much confirmed it. Can't have Zero as a part 3 of something.
You can think of it as their worlds slowly connecting before her arrival so he has dreams of her which he forgets (her face, as he mentioned) and that also explains why he doesn't recognize her in this work when she appears before him.

Either that, or it can be considered an omake of the main work or something similar.
