It is not that "their art turned to shit," but you've desensitized yourself. Artists quickly make a name for themselves using escalation: bigger, nastier, crazier, etc

But just like with candy and cereal, there are "bliss points." You can only add so much sugar before the candy goes from tasting great to foul.

What's really sad is the blatant identity death going on. Halfway through and Wendy might as well be dead. Judging by her thoughts, she "died" wishing she was out of shame.
