as for the manga artist well, 3 millions of lire are 1.549,37 € or 1797,91 $ which are approx 205.266 JPY so yeah, I don't think anyone should look for realism in a doujin like this.

Japanese does not specify the difference between lira/lire; 1 lira, 500 lire, 5,000,000 lire, it doesn't matter. The artist wrote what is correct in Japanese, and I'll go ahead and say that I made a mistake and didn't translate the plural form as lire, but in my defense the plural form of obsolete Italian currency isn't exactly common knowledge. I didn't do the research (which I admit wasn't smart of me) because I cared more about the doujin than the currency mentioned in it... and I assume most people won't mind that detail that much. Apologies to all the Italian readers, though.

It's set in the relatively near future. Anzio is just a school that loves Italian stuff, so I'm guessing the fact that they use lira is played to comedic effect when a huge number like 3,000,000 can have most of its digits shaved off when you convert it to modern day yen. If you convert it to dollars it gets even lower.

You're not "wrong", in Japanese the plural form Lire is commonly translated as リレ so if the author used リラ that's his error.
It's probably not 100% obvious given the fact that even a professional jap->ita translator with ~10 years experience had to do a little research to be sure about the correct usage.
