Given what happens in the sequel, this is a painfully ironic doujin for Haku/Atui fans. Minor spoilers below on the anime/game and the first two hours of Mask of Truth, the final Utawarerumono installment.

Regarding the doujin itself, Atui's personality doesn't come out very well in this play-date, what with her actually succeeding in her romantic pinnings, her dialect being 'mostly' standard porn dialogue and grammar (the artist points out that her unusual word choice comes from her special way of talking), and her synergy with Haku (which comes about due to his exasperation about dealing from the fallout from the inconsistencies between her wild romantic fantasies and her lust for battlefield carnage and excessive violence) being undermined by this artist's Haku suffering from blank face porn protagonist syndrome. As an Atui/Haku fan, I'm a little disappointed how this comic falls short of what a good ship between this two should turn out.

Then again, she's already underrepresented in the Utawarerumono fandom as is, so I say this doujin translation does its job presenting one of the more unusual canon relationships in a 'what-if' scenario... especially since in the sequel Atui realized she really did love Haku, but by then it was too late for her to do confront him over it because she knew it would jeopardize his plans (though the way she expressed complete indifference when "Oshtor" (Haku in disguise) asked how she felt about Haku's death was perhaps the defining comedic moment of their relationship, especially since she blatantly refused to recognize all the things Haku did for her sake like listening to her drunkenly whine for hours about her latest romantic failures and stop her from killing or terrifying the guys she's trying to date with her brute strength).

Unless you're here just for the porn (which the raw provides just as well), I hope you now better appreciate the dysfunctional relationship between a princess looking for love while she's not brutally slaughtering enemies in her free time and her wingman who puts up with her abuse because she's otherwise a reliable comrade.

Even if this comment gets ends up getting censored in the long-run, the fact I've gotten a few upvotes is a sign that I've accomplished what I set out to do. I was thinking I was maybe crazy for thinking people cared about context in unusual hentai ships, but the support makes it all the worthwhile.
