I think the ending was pretty great. It left a sour taste in my mouth, but I think the big issue most people have is they don't want their favorite characters dying. But if you think about it narratively it was sort of building up to it. There was no way for Mika to live an ordinary life after everything that happened. In some ways death was a blessing for him. He and Orga are remnants of the past and as such their deaths also allowed the surviving members to move on with their life.
