Yes, there's some mild mind control (subliminals only) and later on drugs, but this is as close to voluntary corruption as I've ever seen.
Not to mention that the guy actually delivers on his word. As his slaves, they're more fit, dance better, sing better, etc.
At least as idols, he literally pushed their limits to impossible new heights. So in a way, they got exactly what they wanted.

I have to give this one props due to surprisingly realistic brainwashing involved. Usually it just mind control with magic hypnosis or the like, but the brainwashing methods shown here all seem to be real. Isolating them from outside influence and subjecting them to harsh discipline and abuse, mixed with occasional kindness at key moments. It's textbook mental conditioning. Followed by sex under hard drugs to get them addicted and break down their last remaining sense of self. And dangling a carrot (their dream) in front of them the whole time to make them think it's all for their own good. This is the kind of thing cults use to brainwash the weak willed. It actually happens in reality.

My only complain is that I couldn't sympathise with them much after they dropped the Producer like a bad habit as soon as a better option presented itself. The Circle obviously takes the view that women are superficial creatures who are looking for the best man they can get and will trade up in a heartbeat if they think they can do better. Which also happens in reality with unfortunate regularity. But is also OOC compared to the original work and like I said, killed any sense of loss I might have felt after they were stolen and brainwashed. Would have had more impact if they had still cared and tried to stay loyal to Producer only to be broken down and turn on him at the end.
