Yeah its fucked up. Listen and talk to men that have been there as english teachers etc, theres lots of interviews and docus on youtube and other places. They all had real issues with the dating scene since pretty much every single women was so reluctant, but kept coming on to them as they backed off, causing frustrations on both ends. For a similar western experience read a thread on reddit about people dating and red flags or whatever. That reminds me of an article about some western girl telling her experiences dating in Japan. She mostly complained about how she couldn't get any, but apparently western guys (geeky/nerdy ones in her opinion) were really popular. It's mostly this girl's jealous rant, but it is telling of dating standards over there. I inferred that Japanese men don't like western women's independence, confidence and perceived sexual promiscuity, and Japanese women appreciate western men's sensitivity to a women's feelings more so than a Japanese man would provide. At least that is my generalized conclusion.
