There's nothing wrong with apologizing for one's eccentricities, but what he did, was basically say "I'm sorry I'm not someone you should trust or respect.". Confidence is ONE of the most important things to have when STARTING a relationship (Regardless of culture). You don't have to be confident about EVERYTHING, but you should at least have confidence in the fact that your a decent person.
