I know its weird to say it on a site like this, but I liked EGS when it was 25% fanservice 75% story. It's probably because I started getting invested when the Painted Black arc was still new. Now its like sexiness all the time, and I stopped reading because of that. Funny enough, It was Goonmanji 1 that introduced me to EGS

Looking back on EGS, it's easy to see Dan using it as a vehicle through which to explore his identity and the things he's into during a time when he was feeling really uncertain about both.

Now he's a lot more confident in those things, enough so to do a storyline (albeit one in the side comic) that's 100% self-indulgence. Good for you, Dan!

I don't mind indulgence, there is not a single fetish Dan has that I don't like. I just wish the action and adventure the series used to have would make a return. Remember Lord Tedd? Sure wish we could get something on that.

@Dwarfboy- yes the readers are aware that the ghost and the vampire blew up the diamond! But Muff isn't wrong either. There's a LOT of world-building that hasn't been returned to, and instead, we have 100 or so newspaper comics about playing a board game. Awesome anyway, at least! Roll those dice, catgirl!

The main comic really hasn't had much fanservice of the "SExiness" type, at the expense of story. It has had fan-service of different types. (Or, at least, pandering)...but I still like it.

Plus, one of the issues that Dan had already explicitly touched on: Lord Tedd was introduced WAY too early for him to be relevant. Equal to jumping to the secret final boss when you're still level 5. It was a misstep from a previous age, and Dan's working his hardest to try and keep people interested.

@Muffdiver884: I sort-of disagree with you. I would say EGS used to be half story, half fan-service, *but*, since the service was part of the story---1. the transformation gun and its side-effects; 2. Tedd the a Wholesome Pervert (a la All the Tropes); 3. Grace and her furry nudism/Tedd crush/cuddlesome nature---it all just swung together as a coherent whole.

Post-Grace's Birthday Party, EGS is now 33% story, 33% *guilt-ridden* fan-service, and 33% Explaining The Jokes/Social Justice Whinging. He hasn't lost his talent, but he keeps knee-capping it. Sad.

Post-GBP, his art has continued to improve, but (personal taste) it's swung a bit too far to a stylized, cartoonish corner. I miss the hard angles he gave some characters.

p.s. Ten pages in, we're lectured on why it's "disrespectful" to refer to yourself as something-chan. Which it isn't. See what I mean? Utterly humorless.
